Qatar University signs agreement with GCC Secretariat General

Qatar University (QU) and the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance joint cooperation and to make use of the common potential between the two parties in the fields of education, training and scien-tific studies.

The agreement was signed by QU President, Dr. Hassan Al Derham and GCC Assistant Sec-retary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs Counsellor, Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi.

The MoU comes as part of the belief in the vital and effective role played by the cooperation of Qatar University and the Secretariat General of the GCC in all areas of education, training and scientific studies and research, with the aim of developing and building capacity, exchange of expe-rience, information, research, studies and dissemination of knowledge.

Dr. Al Derham said, “The State of Qatar has contributed to a qualitative shift in edu-cation and research through the establishment of the Qatar National Research Fund, which has, since its launch, provided great opportunities for our university professors and researchers in presenting research projects with interna-tional standards.

Through this agreement, we aim to operate on that same idea by working on studies related to Gulf interests. In addition, Qatar University’s Gulf Studies Centre will celebrate its tenth year anniversary next week.

The university also includes mas-ter's and doctoral programmes specialising in Gulf studies, which receives great interest and resonates with many across the world.”Al Suwaidi said, “The initi-ative comes as part of our desire to work with universities in the Gulf region, as well as centres of research and study.

By establishing cooperation’s and partnerships, we can high-light challenges and come up with solutions in the devel-opment of this field as well as prepare various researches and studies.”“We are thrilled to be working with Qatar University, which encompasses a variety of research centres.

We also seek to allocate a Chair for Gulf studies research, to further develop this field and we aim to sign with six Gulf universities and six research centres, and conduct seminars and confer-ences to promote this field of study and highlight achieve-ments and challenges,” he added
