Doha: Qatar University (QU) and the regional office at Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), a German institution, signed an MoU to establish joint cooperation covering different scientific, technical and research areas.
Dr. Omar Al Ansari, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs at QU, and Dr. Gerhard Wahlers in his capacity as the Deputy Secretary and Head for the Division for European and International Relations at KAS signed the agreement.
The two parties agree to join forces, recognising the vital and effective role that government organisations, think-tanks, and government entities play in serving the country and the society, to exchange experiences, information (including research, studies and statistics), conduct studies, hold conferences, meetings and trainings.
On this occasion, Dr. Al Ansari commented: “This agreement was an obvious step for us at Qatar University. There is a lot we can do together for mutual benefit, whether it is in research, policy, etc. We are very proud to be signing this agreement today. We are greatly interested in building sustainable continuing relationships such as this one.”
Dr. Wahlers also commented saying, “Our foundation has a number of educational centres throughout Germany, we have a very large scholarship programme, with thousands of students and alumni. We also have offices in over 100 countries across the world.
"The intention is to build solid relationships and networks that last over years and that are based on trust. We already have a relationship with Qatar University, but through this memorandum, we can make it more solid. This is a good cornerstone for our activities.”
Dr. Mahjoob Zweiri, QU Associate Professor and Director of QU’s Gulf Studies Center, also said: “We thank the regional office at Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for supporting the project of the Gulf Studies Center. The Gulf Studies Center at QU is a part of the larger vision of Qatar for 2030, as the country is a hub for diplomacy, collaboration, mediation and we believe that our message in the center, in addition to knowledge production - we are also active in international collaboration. We are proud to sign this MoU, which is an achievement in and of itself.”
