QU-Health organises 6th Annual Research Symposium

Doha: QU-Health organised the 6th Annual Research Symposium under the theme of innovative research on March 26 and 27.   

The event engaged more than 150 participants from QU-Health colleges —Medicine, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Dental Medicine — in addition to the Biomedical Research Centre. In this special event, around 15 reviewers and judges participated in evaluating the submitted research. The symposium participation comprised of 33 faculty posters, 21 postgraduate posters and 18 undergraduate posters.

The symposium provided an opportunity for QU-Health cluster and the Biomedical Research Centre faculty and students to present their research work, findings, advance and exchange information in formal scientific podium presentations and poster videos. 

The workshop entitled ‘How to translate science to business’ on the second day of the symposium was presented by Prof Gordan Lauc, Founder and CEO of GENOS and Founder of GlycanAge; Dr. Marina Kavur, Head of Corporate and Scientific Communications for Genos and GlycanAge, and Nikolina Lauc, GlycanAge Co-founder and CEO.

Prof Asmaa Althani, Vice-President for Health and Medical Sciences said, “Innovation has become one of the most important means to achieve a sustainable and diversified economy. 

"As an anchor for healthcare research in Qatar, QU-Health aims to leverage the innovative research in medical and health sciences to provide a positive economic and societal impact. The scholarly parade today exhibits a well-established and advanced research capacities at QU-Health that go in parallel with the regional and international healthcare advancements.”

The Director of Research and Graduate Studies at the Medical and Health Sciences Office, Dr. Mohamed Elrayess said, “Innovation has become the third foundation for modern education. Qatar University is investing heavily in innovative research, which presents an opportunity for faculty and students for both funding and research translation. 

"The QU-Health Research Symposium is one of the essential annual activities to showcase our scholarly innovative outcomes in various research areas, including cancer, metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, mental health and health education.”
