CCQ discusses IT needs in labour market

Doha: The Qatar Community College (CCQ) yesterday hosted the first meeting of the Advisory Board for Information Technology Programs. The meeting was part of CCQ’s initiative to form advisory boards aimed at contributing to the continuous improvement of its academic programmes and curriculum and keeping them up to date with the needs of the labour market. 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Aisha Al Hamer from Ministry of Defence; Dr. Jameela Al Otaibi, Acting Director of the Information Security Unit at the State Audit Bureau; Jassim Al Obaidly, Director of Information Technology Department at Qatar Central Bank; Eng Nora Yousef Al Abdulla, Director of Critical Information Infrastructure Protection at the National Cybersecurity Agency; Adel Al Maraghi, Director of Information Systems at the General Authority of Customs; Dr. Mohammed Abdushawish, Senior Director of Corporate Information Security at Ooredoo, and Kamal Zian, Chief Cyber Security Officer, Huawei Gulf North.

The meeting discussed the mechanism for assessing the employment needs of the Qatari labour market for professionals in the IT field, as well as some of the proposed recommendations to ensure that the needs of the renewed labour market are met by graduates of the Associate of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Science in Cyber and Network Security programmes.

Dr. Ahmed Al Omari, Acting Dean of Sciences and Technology Division at CCQ, gave a presentation on both the Associate of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Science in Cyber and Network Security programmes, including study plans and statistical data on the numbers of students, graduates, and faculty. 

Dr. Abdushawish stressed the importance of establishing the board as an important step to keep pace with rapid developments in information technology and cybersecurity by contributing to the development of the curriculum of these specialisations and supporting national cadres to meet the needs of the Qatari labour market, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
