Participants at the 6th Engineering in Medicine Workshop.
Doha: Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) recently organised the 6th QU-Engineering in Medicine Workshop. The event was held online with the theme ‘Engineering Approaches in Cancer Research, Diagnosis and Therapy.’
Attending the event were CENG Associate Dean for Research and Postgraduate Programs Prof. Ahmed Masoud, the Medical Director of Hamad Hospital Dr. Yousuf Maslamani. Keynote speakers included Prof. Rashid Bashir, the Dean of Engineering at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, Prof. Paul Weiss, the founding editor in chief of ACS Nano, and Prof. Thomas Webster, the founding editor in chief of International Journal of Nanomedicine, as well as speakers and attendees from different countries.
The main aim of the workshop was to bring together the clinicians, scientists, engineers and researchers to share the latest advances in engineering approaches to tackle cancer.
Dr. Anwarul Hasan, Associate Professor at MIE-QU-CENG, chaired the workshop. The distinguished speakers of the two-day workshop included Dr. Yu Shrike Zhang and Dr. Su-Ryon Shin from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Mehdi Nikkhah from Arizona State University, Dr. Nureddin Ashammakhi from University of California Los Angeles and Michigan State University, Dr. Akhilesh Gaharwar from Texas A & M University, College Station, and several speakers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, etc.
In his comment, the chair of the MIE Department Professor Dr. Elsadig Mahdi Ahmed Saad said the department was proud to have organised the event which shows that QU researchers are producing high-quality research in solving human health related issues through interdisciplinary research.
