Ministry launches second qualifying round for 3rd Reading Olympiad

Doha: With the participation of 1,395 students, the second qualifying round for 3rd Reading Olympiad will start today, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has announced.

At this round, interviews will be conducted with qualified students from their schools after passing the first qualifying round, which is held internally in each school to nominate five students from each school to move to the second round of reading competition. 

About 17,800 students participated in the internal qualifying round held in 279 public and private schools.

The Education Affairs Sector represented by the Curriculum and Learning Resources Department, in cooperation with the Private Schools Affairs Sector represented by the Private Schools Affairs Department in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, launched 3rd edition of the Reading Olympiad project.

The Reading Olympiad is one of the most important national events that aim to spread the culture of reading among students, with the aim of instilling the habit of reading among our students in public and private schools, which serves the community, its development and advancement, and contributes to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.

The organization of the Reading Olympiad project comes from the vision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and its belief in the importance of reading, providing the student with reading skills, and preparing a generation armed with knowledge to serve their country.

The project aims through its main competition entitled ‘Read and Express’ to create the habit of reading in the hearts of r students, and to help them discover their own abilities. The Reading Olympiad contributes in investing information for knowledge building. The knowledge-based society is an advanced society, and this leads to the realisation of the knowledge based economy, which is one of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Reading Olympiad aims to encourage and support students to possess knowledge and to apply it in multiple contexts. The project includes two main activities - The Reading Week, which comes within the celebrations of World Book Day and Arab Library Day. The activities of the Reading Week will be held form March 27 to 31, 2022.
