Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba H E Oscar Leon Gonzalez said that Qatar is a global reference in conflict resolution through dialogue and a promoter of solidarity and cooperation to face challenges affecting humanity.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Cuban Ambassador expressed his impression by the significant progress made by the Qatari nation in different fields such as health, economy, trade, infrastructure, culture, sports, communication information technologies, and others. These significant results compel great admiration and respect from the international community and contribute to the progress and welfare of the brotherly Qatari people, he said.
“The priority that Qatar attaches to sport and the positive results achieved in this sector are recognized internationally, as evidenced by its designation as host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The local authorities have worked impressively to fulfil their commitments to FIFA and the world,” he said.
“The Government and people of Qatar, under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, have demonstrated to the international community the capacity of Qatari nation to undertake major projects,” he said, adding that the fact that most of the work was completed a year ahead of schedule is undoubtedly a significant result, which will serve as an experience for future endeavors in Qatar and other countries.
Cuba and Qatar share common principles and objectives in international relations, including the promotion of peace and international cooperation in solving global problems, respect for the principle of sovereign equality of all States, the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and the defense of sovereignty and independence, the Ambassador noted.
The Ambassador pointed out that the potential for development is still enormous between the two sides, and therefore the authorities in both countries are working to consolidate and expand this cooperation and to replicate the success in other sectors such as biotech and pharma, tourism, investment, trade, culture, sports and education. The Ambassador praised the economic performance of Qatar and the progress made in the field of food security with great strides towards self-sufficiency in a number of food commodities, the progress made in economic diversification, local industries’ contribution to the GDP rose to fourth place, growth of the international financial reserves and its impact on the sustainability of the local currency.
