Doha: Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the State of Qatar H E Jai Sohan Singh affirmed the distinction of Qatari-Singaporean relations, pointing out that they are constantly developing and witnessing prosperity in various fields of cooperation and partnership between the two friendly countries.
In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the celebration of the country’s National Day, the Ambassador said the relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Singapore are witnessing continuous growth and are immensely strengthened, expressing confidence that they will continue to flourish in the coming years.
He extended warmest congratulations to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and to the government and people of Qatar on the occasion of National Day, wishing the Qatari people continued peace and prosperity.
The Ambassador said Qatar made remarkable achievements and made meaningful contributions at the regional and international levels. He noted the vital role played by tQatar in Afghanistan at all levels, including the humanitarian one.He pointed out that 2021 also saw the inaugural Shura Council election, a landmark event for Qatar and its people.
Even as the global economy is on the path to recovery, the COVID-19 pandemic remains a challenge, the Ambassador underlined, further commending the Qatari government for its effective management of the pandemic. Qatar has not only managed to bring its domestic situation under control, but it has also bolstered its position as a critical regional hub amidst the pandemic, after ensuring the safe passage of people to their homes, and supporting global supply chains, he added.
Qatar has also emerged as an important center for sports and culture, not just within the Middle East, but on an international level, the Ambassador noted, adding that several major sports and cultural events occurred in Doha this year, such as Qatar Open, Qatar International Art Festival, Qatar Formula One Grand Prix 2021, and now the FIFA Arab Cup 2021.
The Ambassador said these events have been successful dress rehearsals for the FIFA World Cup next year, which will be a historic milestone for Qatar and the Arab world. He noted that Singapore was Qatar’s 6th largest trading partner in 2020, and total bilateral trade amounted to over $3.7bn between January-August 2021. Qatar is Singapore’s 3rd largest trading partner in the Middle East, and a key investor in Singapore, he pointed out, adding that Qatari investments into Singapore amount to more than $1.5bn.
