The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani inaugurated the ninth Qatar International Agricultural and Environmental Exhibition 2022 yesterday at DECC in West Bay.
Together with a number of ministers and dignitaries, the PM toured around pavilions, checked on the local produce and the greenhouse and shrimp farming of Agrico Qatar.
The PM also visited the booth of Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and Ministry of Municipality wherein a dedicated area for Expo 2023 Doha Qatar is being showcased. He was briefed with the latest technologies on agriculture, environmental sustainability and food security.
Minister of Municipality, H E Dr Abdulla bin AbdulAziz bin Turki Al Subaie said that this year’s edition comes within the framework of the Ministry’s strategy to support food security in the country. He also stressed that the exhibit will showcase various innovations in agricultural technologies and environmental sustainability, and launch projects and initiatives. Moreover, he said that AgriteQ and EnviroteQ will be adopted on the international agenda.
For his part, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, H E Dr Sheikh Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani said the event confirms the efforts made by Qatar in protecting the environment as one of the main pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. The four key pillars are economic, social, human and environmental developments.
This is through the issuance of laws and legislation aimed at protecting the environment, launching initiatives and organising international events and conferences in the field of environment, which contribute to increasing international cooperation and exchanging experiences to offer environmental solutions in various fields.
He added that they will unveil modern technologies to protect the environment and reduce emissions from the participating countries, as well as display the best innovations presented this year in the field of sustainable development.
Speaking on the sidelines of the exhibit, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Director of the Public Relations Department, Farhoud Al Hajri, said this year’s edition is distinct compared from previous years on number of participating entities wherein 650 local and international companies in the field of agriculture, environment, food, and animal production joined from 50 countries.
He also stressed that they will highlight the promotion of high-technology innovations related to agricultural production and environment.
“In terms of technology, we have a number of strategies for food security and environment. We will also hold various sessions that will showcase technologies from countries. Also, presentations from participating countries regarding investment opportunities, experiences and know-how sharing in terms of technology that are being used currently,” Al Hajri said.
He added: “The main component about technology is to make sure you use the latest technologies, the one that preserves the natural resources and the ones that are eco-friendly.”
“There will be a number of agreements to be signed between some of local research entities and institutes and their counterparts from different countries, and also there will be another side on government to government relations which most of it are already existing but we might have some opportunities during this event to expand other fields,” he said.
The five-day event will also feature presentation of researches and results of it in the field of agriculture and environment sectors. Al Hajri also revealed they will publish some works in the forms of studies and books that will be commissioned during the event.
The ninth Qatar International Agricultural and Environmental Exhibition 2022 will run until Monday, March 14 from 10am to 9pm except for Friday where it will open between 2pm and 9pm. Interested individuals need to register via agriteq.com to be able to enter the exhibit. It has become an important exhibit of its kind in the region. This year’s edition attracted the largest number of international participation and presence of ministers and diplomats. There are 37 international pavilions, 300 international companies, and over 56 international and local speakers.
