Doha, Qatar: The Shura Council held on Monday its regular weekly session, chaired by the Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.
The session, at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's premises, began with the legislature hailing HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's participation in the extraordinary Arab Summit on March 4 in Cairo - along with Their Majesties, Excellencies and Highnesses, the leaders of the sisterly Arab countries.
Noting that the summit came at a very important time to address the latest grave developments of the Palestinian issue, the legislative body said HH the Amir's participation demonstrated the State of Qatar's firm commitment to defending the brotherly Palestinian people's rights, and its keenness to support Arab and international efforts to stop the aggression on the Gaza Strip and ensure the required support for reconstruction, alleviating the suffering of Palestinians.
It also appreciated the summit outcomes, which manifested a unified Arab position backing the Palestinian cause, rejecting any transfer or demographic change schemes, and affirming the necessity of a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
After that, HE the Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud read out the session agenda, and the minutes of the previous session were approved.
During the session, the legislature approved a draft law on supporting innovation and scientific research following a thorough debate on the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee report and referred it to the esteemed government.
Furthermore, the agenda included a debate on the Shura Council's engagement in 36th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in Cairo in December, 2024.
It also approved six requests to extend the work of its standing committees to study the topics referred to them by the Council.
