Doha, Qatar: The AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Local Organising Committee (LOC) announced its collaboration with the Ministry of Transport to offer a free Doha Metro day pass to ticket holders on match days. Only supporters travelling on the match day shown on their ticket will be eligible.
Match tickets will be scanned at Doha Metro stations. Supporters travelling on those days that correspond with their ticket will receive a free day pass. The free day pass can be used on the Doha Metro network and is valid for one day only.
Five out of the nine stadiums used for the tournament can be accessed directly by metro, while the rest will be connected by a free shuttle service from the nearest metro station. A free shuttle service will be available from Lusail, Al Wakra, Free Zone and Qatar University stations to Al Bayt, Al Janoub, Al Thumama and Abdullah bin Khalifa stadiums respectively. The entire user journey is wheelchair accessible.
For Engr. Faisal Al Moftah, Executive Director of Mobility at the LOC, fan experience is a top priority, with smooth movement between venues key to the success of the tournament. “Fans are the beating heart of this tournament, and we are keen on delivering the best experience to them. Qatar’s compact nature means that the farthest distance between any two stadiums is 75km. This will enable fans to attend more than one match per day, while visiting fans will be able to stay in one place of accommodation throughout the tournament, as they make their way between stadiums using a modern road and rail network.”
“Our robust transportation infrastructure will enable both fans and participating teams to easily access stadiums and other key sites. We encourage fans to make use of our state-of-the-art public transport services when enjoying matches and to explore all that Qatar has to offer,” said Mesned Al Misned, Project Manager, Public Transport Affairs Department at the Ministry of Transport.
Meanwhile, Doha Metro has announced updates regarding their Park & Ride service during the tournament.
During match days at Lusail Stadium, the park and ride service at Lusail QNB station will be affected and commuters are advised to park at Qatar University station park and ride facility.
The park and ride service at the Education City station will also be affected during match days at its namesake match venue. Therefore, commuters may use the park-and-ride facilities at Al Rayyan Al Qadeem station and Al Messila.
Match days at Jassim Bin Hamad stadium will also affect the Al Sudan station park and ride facility. Users may park their cars at Al Waab station.
