Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has launched an updated government scholarship programme for Qatari students for the academic year 2024-25.
“The programme offers 1,500 scholarships to the graduates of secondary schools to pursue their higher studies in prestigious universities operating in Qatar and abroad,” said Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs at MoEHE, Dr. Hareb Al Jabri.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, he said the number of scholarships has doubled from 700 in the previous programme to 1,500 in the new programme.
“The scholarships have been increased from 500 to 1,000 for Qatar and from 250 to 500 for abroad,” said Al Jabri. Applications for the programme will be open from June 15 to August 15, 2024.
He said the updated programme provides scholarships in eight academic tracks compared to three tracks in the previous programme.
“The tracks include science, engineering and technology; health care and medical sciences; teaching and educational sciences; graduate studies; social sciences and humanities; creative economy; vocational; and sports,” said Al Jabri.
He said the list of foreign universities has been updated according to eight academic tracks by selecting best universities of the world for each track.
“The programme is designed in a way to facilitate students’ access to distinguished universities that provide qualitative education in specialisations that suit their desires and abilities,” said Al Jabri.

The approach to selecting specialisations for each programme within the scholarship tracks is based on three main factors: the replacement and nationalisation plan in the government sector through Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CSGDB), the replacement and nationalisation plan in the private sector through the Ministry of Labour, and forward-looking specialisations that meet the future needs of government and private institutions.
Director of the Qualification and Skills Development Department at the Ministry of Labour, Abdul Rahman Muhammad Talfat, said: “The private sector remains an essential partner in the economic and social development in Qatar, and therefore we are keen on our part to contribute to providing scholarship opportunities for Qatari students in a way to make them lead in private sector.”
He added: “We are confident that the new government scholarship plan contributes to achieving this goal by providing various scholarship opportunities that meet the needs of the private sector.”
Director of Civil Service Affairs at CSGDB, Saif Al Kaabi said: “The government scholarship programme is one of the main arms for achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 and promoting human development, by preparing an efficient work sector that meets the requirements of specialisations.” He said that the programme reflects the needs of the various sectors in the country. “The Civil Service and Government Development Bureau is one of the most important partners in the scholarship programme,” said Al Kaabi.
Director of Public Relations and Communication Department at MoEHE, Maryam Abdullah Al Mohannadi also attended the press conference.
The recent amendments to scholarship programme for Qatar included many notable improvements, including the teachers training programme “Tamouh”, run jointly by MoEHE and Qatar University, which grants scholarship for Qatar to male Qatari students who have obtain a grade of 70% or higher in high school.
The changes also included sending outstanding male and female students to national and private universities to study specialisations that suit their scientific abilities and inclinations.
Details about the scholarship programme, conditions, and applications are available at the ministry’s website.
The programme aims to enhance educational opportunities in various specialisations for Qatari students at home and abroad to increase the percentage of those holding academic degrees within the national plan to enhance the workforce and economic growth in both the government and private sectors, in cooperation with CSGDB and the Ministry of Labour.
