DFI calls for grants programme submissions in January 2022

Calling on filmmakers who are in need of granting support, the Doha Film Institute (DFI) announced that its Grants Programme for Film, TV and Web Series submissions will be open in January 2022.

To date, the programme has supported over 640 projects from 70 countries. In a statement, it disclosed that if one have a film, TV or web series project in various stage of development or production, he can apply through its website www.dohafilminstitute.com

The Spring 2022 cycle will officially open on January 7 until 18. This is the first of the two-leg cycle, the other will be in July 2022.

Under the Film grant, among its guidelines include: short films are defined as five to 30 minutes in duration, while feature films are 65 minutes above. A director may submit only one project per grant session, and applications for production or post-production funding in prior Grants sessions are only eligible to apply for production funding consideration. Projects that have received production funding in prior sessions are not eligible to apply for post-production funding.

DFI Grants Programme provides financial assistance for TV and Web Series helmed by MENA screenwriters, directors and producers, subject to eligibility criteria.

It aims to support emerging and innovative voices from the MENA region that address topics with universal reach and spotlight rising trends or talents that will contribute to Pan-Arab culture of today and tomorrow.

The TV Series Development Grant is targeted to assist independent screenwriters, directors, and producers in developing original serialised fiction and creative documentary content intended for global markets.

Meanwhile, the Web Series Production Grant is aimed to assist independent MENA directors/producers in financing original serialised fiction and creative documentary content for the web. 

A minimum of 50 percent of the financing must be in place and the pilot episode must already be completed at the time of submission.

DFI also announced that for Qatari applicants, they are invited to contact the Institute year-round at [email protected] in discussing grants, co-financing possibilities, internships with international productions, creative development seminars, mentorship initiative and exhibition opportunities.

This is one way of the Institute to strengthen and empower Qatari voices in filmmaking that have the potential to make significant contributions to the art of cinema.
