Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality in cooperation with the relevant authorities is working to get the status of ‘ideal’ for Qatari cities by making them greener, healthier, more sustainable, and inclusive, said a top official.
“All eight municipalities of Qatar received the title of ‘Healthy Cities’. The work continues to raise the competencies of healthy cities to achieve the status of ideal,” said Director of the Technical Office of Health Control at the Ministry of Municipality Tariq Al Tamimi.
The ideal city is a model resulting from the successful, balanced integration of socio-economic and built-natural factors over time. An ideal city is vibrant, authentic, inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
Speaking to Qatar TV recently, Al Tamimi said that the Ministry of Municipality is providing a number of services to people in Qatar including citizens and expatriates enabling them to lead a decent and healthy life.
He said that one of the initiatives of the Ministry is healthy city, which continually creates and improves its physical and social environments and expands the community resources that enable people to mutually support each other in performing all the functions of life and developing their maximum potential.
“The initiative covers many things such as providing a healthy environment, access to quality food, maintaining public hygiene and sports facilities for health and fitness,” said Al Tamimi. He said that the healthy city initiative is being implemented with the support of all Ministries.
Speaking about the contribution of the Ministry of Municipality in hosting AFC Asian Cup 2023, Director of the Technical Office of Health Control said that the Ministry is participating in four major areas and food safety, which is on top priority, is one of them.
He said that the Ministry represented by the General Cleanliness Department provides cleaning services across the country with a special focus on stadiums and training facilities.
“The third participation of the Ministry is related to recycling the waste generated during the Asian Cup to reach the goal of zero waste for landfill,” said Al Tamimi. He said that the Ministry has also intensified the monitoring through municipalities to ensure the health and safety of fans during their visits to public places across the country. The Ministry of Municipality has deployed a team of 51 inspectors to make sure that the eateries operate at the venues of AFC Asian Cup 2023 and hotels adhering to the provisions of the health and safety rules.
The action plan of the Ministry aims at ensuring the health and safety of players, fans and those participating in this international sports event. The municipal inspectors record violations against erring outlets and take necessary actions.
