Ooredoo Doha Marathon will celebrate its 10th edition with a new route through Lusail City as a way of the telecommunications company’s aim to promote iconic places in Qatar.
Ooredoo Qatar Public Relations Director, Sabah Rabian S S Al Kuwari said on the sidelines of a press conference held yesterday that they have decided to move the route as a way to promote Lusail, as of one of the popular places in the country. The usual route of the marathon is in Doha Corniche.

Al Kuwari also encouraged the public to start doing sport activities as part of their daily life but not only during National Sport Day or events like the upcoming marathon. “Ooredoo Marathon is something different from any other event in general. From Ooredoo perspective, we do this event as part of our CSR,” he said.
The Ooredoo Doha Marathon will be held on March 11, moreover, virtual marathon will also take place from March 3 to 11, those participating on this virtual run have to run at an outside location (not on a treadmill) and track the run with Ooredoo’s special GPS application.
Registration is now open at its website and distances are 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km.
Al Kuwari also said that the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has approved participation of 2,000 individuals for this year’s edition. “We asked for more but we are still waiting for aproval,” he said. He also revealed that the prizes will be “bigger” compared to the previous edition as the marathon celebrates a decade-long anniversary. They have also invited professional athletes and runners to participate in the event but no confirmation yet of their attendance.
A Marathon Village is also set to open two days before the marathon itself wherein the participants can get their t-shirt and accreditation at the area. Al Kuwari said that they are in negotiation with the International Committee of Sport Marathon to include Ooredoo Doha Marathon as an internationally recognised marathon worldwide.
