QU celebrates young scientists’ success in international competitions

Doha: Qatar University celebrated the students of its Young Scientists Centre (QUYSC) yesterday, who won prizes in several international exhibitions and competitions, in the presence of Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi and President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, and a number of University officials.

The honorees included 17 students who won gold, silver and bronze medals in the Sixth International Exhibition for Innovation in Turkey, the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition 2021 in Malaysia, and the sixth edition of the International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada.

In a speech on the occasion, Dr. Al Derham praised the accomplishments achieved by the Centre every year, stressing that the students’ contributions and their international participation are a source of pride for the University.

He added that the programme contributes to improving the University’s output and increasing the interest of young people in innovation and research, because it selects topics that are popular and interesting to young people, which motivates them to be creative.

For her part, Director of Qatar University Young Scientists Centre (QUYSC) Dr. Noora Jabr Al Thani expressed pride in the achievements of the Centre’s students at the global level, and their honourable representation of Qatar. 

“Today, we are reaping the fruits of hard work, achieving a national vision and a scientific revolution led by our creative youth in the fields of science and innovation,” she said.

She stressed the Centre’s keenness on sponsoring and supporting Qatari students and integrating them into the research environment at Qatar University.  

The Minister of Education and QU President honoured the students at the conclusion of the ceremony.
