Doha, Qatar: Coinciding with the rains falling on the country, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in cooperation with the Environmental Security of the Internal Security Force  (Lekhwiya), carried out an extensive inspection campaign in several meadows in the northern part of the country.

The campaign aims to ensure that visitors comply with the laws and regulations related to protecting wildlife, and to monitor environmental violations, especially those related to trampling the meadows.

With the beginning of winter and the start of the winter camping season, the Wildlife Protection Department was keen to implement periodic inspection campaigns targeting most of the country’s wilderness areas, which resulted in the detection of several environmental violations that included trampling on meadows and disposing of waste, in addition to confiscating bird-calling whistles used by hunting enthusiasts.

These campaigns aimed to monitor environmental violations and ensure compliance with laws and legislation that protect the environment and wildlife, including Law No. 32 of 1995 on preventing harm to the plant environment and its components, Law No. 19 of 2004 on protecting wildlife and its natural habitats, in addition to the ministerial decision regulating grazing and prohibiting the hunting of some species of birds and wild animals.

These campaigns also included camping areas, to ensure that campers adhere to general requirements, including adherence to the sites specified according to camping permits, compliance with environmental controls, and not encroaching on prohibited areas such as valleys and meadows, or renting camps to others.

The Ministry takes immediate legal action against those who violate winter camping rules.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change stressed the importance of wildlife visitors adhering to environmental laws, stressing that violating them exposes perpetrators to legal accountability.

It also called for the need to preserve biodiversity, protect wild plants and animals, and avoid any practices that may harm or pollute the environment.

The Ministry stressed the need to adhere to cleanliness in the wilderness areas, not to leave waste in the meadow, and to dispose of it in the designated containers.

The concerned authorities have provided enough containers distributed thoughtfully in various wilderness areas and meadows.

These campaigns also seek to enhance environmental awareness among citizens and residents, by informing them of environmental regulations and laws, the importance of preserving nature reserves, and ways to reduce violations that may expose them to legal accountability.
