Qatar Meteorology Department has forecast the cold spell reaching less than 8 degree Celsius, especially in northern parts and remote areas of the country this week.

The cold spell caused by northwesterly wind with scattered rain at places is expected to be the coldest, so far, this winter season.

“Qatar has witnessed instability in weather due to scattered rainfall with thundercloud and strong wind,” said weather forecaster at Qatar Meteorology Department of General Authority of Civil Aviation, Abdul Aziz Al Hamidi.

Speaking on a Qatar TV programme yesterday, Al Hamidi said that the country is now witnessing northwesterly wind between moderate and strong at most places, which is expected to continue until the beginning of next week.

“The northwesterly wind will lead to dust and low horizontal visibility. The wind will bring down the temperature to less than 8 degree Celsius in northern parts and remote areas of the country while the apparent temperature will be less than that,” said Al Hamidi.

He said that it is expected that this cold spell, so far, will be coldest during this winter season. Speaking about the rainfall, he said that the rainfall will continue offshore until today and inside the sea until Thursday.

“During two days (today and tomorrow) rainfall is expected offshore with continuous warning of northwesterly wind between moderate to strong. The tide is expected from 4 feet to 8 feet reaching to 11 feet some times,” said Al Hamidi.

He urged the sea-goers to suspend all types of activities in sea due to strong northwesterly wind which will lead to high tide upto 11 feet until the beginning of next week.  Al Hamidi also called people to take precaution during strong wind, which will to lead to blowing of dust and low horizontal visibility at times.

Qatar Meteorology Department urged people to be careful and to avoid marine activities following the updated information on social networking sites of the department.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, 17 degree Celsius minimum temperature was recorded yesterday in two places, Ghuwayriyah and Karanah, followed by Ruwais, Jumayliya, Dukhan, Shahaniyah, Karana, which witnessed 18 degree minimum temperature.

The authority recorded yesterday 19 degree minimum temperature at Shehaimiya, Qatar University, Doha Airport, Hamad Airport, Umm Bab, Mukaynis, Abu Samra, Turayna, Sudanthile and Messaid.
