Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has designated 205 mosques across the country for the observance of Itikaf during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan 1446 AH.
In a statement, the Ministry urged those intending to perform Itikaf to familiarize themselves with its jurisprudential rulings, ensuring their observance aligns with the Prophet's (PBUH) guidance in a legitimate and spiritually rewarding manner.
The Ministry emphasized that the selection of mosques was based on key criteria, including geographical distribution, congregational status, and the readiness of facilities to accommodate worshipers.
It specified that individuals performing Itikaf must be at least 18 years old. However, those under 18 may participate if accompanied by a guardian, provided they are at least 8 years old.
The Ministry underscored the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and ensuring the cleanliness of the designated Itikaf areas. It also called on worshipers to respect mosque property and avoid actions that may disturb others, such as engaging in side conversations.
Furthermore, the Ministry prohibited hanging clothes on walls, columns, or other mosque structures to preserve the sanctity and appearance of the mosques. Worshipers were also instructed to use only the designated areas for sleeping and eating, as determined by the Mosque Administration. Additionally, it reiterated that women are not permitted to perform Itikaf in mosques.
