Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Qatar Red Crescent Society signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) yesterday to implement educational community programmes for students.

The programmes aim to strengthen partnerships and cooperation in humanitarian, volunteer, and educational work to create awareness among students and promote a culture of giving and social responsibility.

The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater and QRCS President Yousef bin Ali Al Khater. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education H E Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi and Secretary-General of QRCS Faisal Mohammed Al Emadi signed the agreement.

As per the agreement, the two parties will cooperate in implementing educational and community programmes and projects for students of all ages.

The most prominent of these programmes is the “QRCS School Programme”, which enhances students’ skills in emergency response, health awareness and social responsibility in addition to promoting the culture of volunteer work within schools.

QRCS School Programme is an innovative, ambitious initiative to provide school students with practical skills and awareness regarding emergency preparedness, disaster response, risk reduction, first aid, health education and social harmony.

Initiatives also include the “Gift Initiative,” which aims to collect in-kind donations for children in need and the “Future Investor Initiative,” which promotes a culture of savings, donations, and charitable work.

In addition, training workshops will be organised on sustainability and volunteering, including recycling and social responsibility, along with humanitarian field visits for students to hospitals and community institutions to enhance their sense of responsibility towards others.

Commenting on the signing of the memorandum, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi expressed his happiness with this partnership with the QRCS, noting that humanitarian and volunteer work has become an educational necessity that contributes to preparing students to face the challenges of future life. Addressing the event, he said: “This partnership is an essential part of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s strategy, as we believe that building a human being is not achieved solely through academic education, but rather through enhancing their human and social values and developing their life skills, which contribute to shaping their integrated personality.”

QRCS Secretary-General Faisal Mohammed Al Emadi said that this agreement reflects the Qatar Red Crescent’s commitment to spreading the culture of volunteer and humanitarian work within the school community. He noted that the joint initiatives will provide students with practical opportunities to develop their skills and understand their role in society.

Al Emadi said: “This partnership stems from our social responsibility and our belief in the complementary role of education, humanitarian work, and volunteering in building a generation with a high level of responsibility and a sense of humanity.”

The Memorandum of Understanding has come into force immediately upon signing and will remain in effect for a period of three years, with the possibility of renewal for a similar period. This will ensure the continuity of joint projects and programmes between the two parties and enhance their impact on building an aware and responsible generation.
