Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Media Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, organised a workshop on the fundamentals of Garangao photography, as part of its efforts to preserve and creatively document Qatari heritage.
Led by photographer and trainer Abdullah Srour, the workshop attracted significant participation. Attendees learned about professional photography techniques and their application in documenting the Garangao celebration, one of Qatar and the Gulf’s most cherished cultural traditions.
The workshop covered various topics, including photography basics, techniques for different conditions, and methods for capturing Garangao celebrations professionally. It also featured practical applications at multiple locations, enabling participants to develop essential skills for documenting traditional festivities with high quality while respecting the unique essence of Garangao.
Director of the Qatar Media Center, Iman Al Kaabi highlighted the significance of the workshop, which combines the preservation of Qatari heritage with modern photography techniques.
She emphasised the center’s goal of fostering a generation that values heritage and is equipped to document it creatively for future continuity. The workshop targeted individuals aged 16 and above, underlining the importance of involving youth in cultural documentation and strengthening their connection to their rich traditions.
