The Doha Film Institute announced that independent cinema is coming to VOX.
On social media account post, it said that the partnership of bringing independent cinemas has been agreed upon with VOX Cinemas Qatar.
“We are pleased to bring you the very latest and exclusive releases from the world of independent cinema. Every month, we will be screening unmissable original film that has garnered considerable acclaim and industry awards. Stay tuned to find out more on the inaugural screening!,” DFI explained.
The public can enjoy DFI’s critically acclaimed independent movies, festival favourites, and even exclusive releases. Currently, VOX cinema has two branches in the country, one at Doha Festival City in Umm Salal Mohammed, and at Doha Oasis located in Musheireb.
A cinephilia Jon Jon Agripa Mirabel told The Peninsula that the DFI’s programme to screen independent movies on the big screen is “exciting.” “This is a remarkable initiative where more people will get to watch indie movies which mostly tackle deep problems of the society, government, and even family issues. I can’t wait until they announce the first line-up of films!,” he said.
Meanwhile, for Jo Sy, she said: “Watching indie films on cinemas is a smart move to engage and reach the public closer to the works of a non-major film studio. There is something distinct about indie films compared to the usual movies we are accustomed to, I am hopeful that this move will develop the love of people to indie films more.”
DFI is dedicated to film appreciation, education, and building a dynamic film industry in Qatar that focuses on nurturing regional storytellers while being entirely global in its scope. With culture, community, education and entertainment at its foundation, the Institute serves as an all-encompassing film hub in Doha, as well as a resource for the region and the rest of the world.
