Doha, Qatar: The United Nations (UN) lowered the flags at half-mast at its buildings around the world yesterday, calling for a minute’s silence for the UN’s workers killed in Gaza.

Flags flew at half-mast at the UN offices and missions in Doha, joining the worldwide mourning of the killing of 101 UN workers and mourning the martyrdom of innocent men, women and children in Gaza.

The blue and white flag of the UN was lowered around the world the day after the organisation announced that a number of its employees had been killed in a bombing targeting the headquarters of the UN’s Development Program in Gaza.

Since the beginning of the unprecedented aggression on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, the Israeli occupation has targeted hospitals and health care centres in the strip with the aim of damaging the health system. This led to the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of health personnel, ambulance and civil defence crews and the damage to ambulance vehicles. 23 hospitals, out of 35, are completely out of operation. 51 primary health care centres, out of 72, have been disabled due to damage caused by bombing or lack of fuel. The occupation forces also besiege many hospitals, preventing entry or exit for medical staff, paramedics and patients.
