MoEHE honours winners of National English Language Olympiad

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has honoured the winners in the second National English Language Olympiad (ELO), held under the supervision of the MoEHE’s English language department.

In a statement yesterday, the ministry highlighted that the event is a major step toward advancing students’ capabilities to qualify for international contests and intends to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and help students acquire knowledge and share culture, in addition to fostering the seamless integration of students within a spurring educational environment.

Head of the MoEHE’s English department, Sheikha Al Rumaihi, affirmed that the event featured students engaging in a fervent competition in a mesmerizing environment alongside their peers to showcase their capabilities, highlighting that this year’s topic was about sports as a prelude for students to be primed for rigorous competition on the global stage.

Al Rumaihi stated that Moza bint Mohammed Preparatory Independent School for girls and Al Yarmouk Independent Preparatory School for Boys have been qualified to represent the State of Qatar in the international Olympiad of English language slated to be held in Jordan in May 2025.

The contest results culminated in Moza bint Mohammed Preparatory Independent School for girls securing first place while Roqaya Preparatory for Girls Independent School snagged the second place, alongside Al Khor Primary Independent School for Girls which claimed the third place.

In addition, Al Yarmouk Independent Preparatory School for Boys won the first place, while Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys secured second place, with Saeed bin Zaid Preparatory School for Boys snagging the third place.

ELO is a competitive didactic event for competition at the domestic and international levels that eyes students across various public schools with the aim of advancing their linguistic skills and scientific research, offering an environment conducive for collective work that fuses enjoyment with merits.
