Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Civil Service and Government Development Bureau announced new scholarship opportunities for secondary school graduates from the academic year 2022-23.

The scholarships will be offered to the new graduates of secondary schools in coordination with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to pursue their higher studies in four specialisations.

The programmes for scholarships include Jurisprudence and its Principles, Qur’an and Sunnah, Faith and Advocacy, and Islamic Studies.

The candidates should be graduates from secondary schools in the academic year 2022-23 and have approval for admission in the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies of Qatar University.

The candidates are required to pass an interview with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

Interested candidates can apply through the government scholarship platform at https://scholarship.edu.gov.qa/.

The College of Sharia and Islamic Studies of Qatar University is offering a number of academic programmes including BA in Qur’an and Sunnah, BA in Faith and Advocacy, BA in Jurisprudence and its Principles, and BA in Islamic Studies.

In May, the General Endowment Department of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs launched a scholarship programme for the postgraduate students of the College of Islamic Studies of  Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).

Under the programme, initially, 36 scholarships were provided to eligible students, which will increase gradually to 120 scholarships.

Speaking at the launch event, the Director-General of General Endowment Department Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani said that these scholarships align with the objectives of the endowment fund for education and cultural development, which witnessed great expansion and diversification during the last period.

He said that the Department, in order to achieve its motto, the endowment, is a community partnership that expands community partnerships with the various sectors of society.

In order to ensure the highest quality standards and educational outcomes, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education compiles a list of colleges and universities abroad that are eligible for Qatari scholarships.

The list contains post-secondary institutions representing many countries in Europe, Asia, North America, and Oceania. It is updated every two years.

The Ministry also compiles a list of approved universities for online education. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must gain acceptance to one of the approved universities found on either the Emiri Scholarship or, the Approved Universities list.

The Emiri Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the government to students who gain acceptance to the world’s most elite universities, including Harvard, Yale, Oxford, University of Melbourne, and McGill University.

Students wishing to study at their own expense must still obtain pre-approval to ensure their university of choice is approved by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
