Geneva: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Human Rights Council, recently hosted a celebration marking the fourth International Day of Women Judges.
The event took place on the sidelines of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
The SJC delegation was led by Senior Judge at the Court of Appeal, Dr. Hessa Al Sulaiti, and included First Deputy President of the Court of First Instance, Fatima Al Mal, Judge Aisha Al Emadi, along with several directors and heads of the Council’s specialized administrative units.
A number of national and international organisations participated in the celebration, including the National Human Rights Committee, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Association of Women Judges, headquartered in Washington, DC.
The International Day of Women Judges was officially adopted by consensus during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, following an initiative proposed by the State of Qatar. This milestone underscores Qatar’s leadership in promoting gender equality within the judiciary and aligns with the objectives of sustainable development and Qatar National Vision 2030.
