AgriteQ featuring 300 exhibitors from 29 nations opens at Katara

Doha, Qatar: The 12th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ) 2025, featuring 300 exhibitors from 29 countries opened yesterday at Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, showcasing the latest agricultural innovations and technologies.

Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the five-day event, being held from February 4 to 8, provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and enhance cooperation between various stakeholders in the agricultural sector. 

The exhibition, spanning an area of over 40,000sqm, features dedicated markets for dates, honey, flowers, and agricultural produce.

Speaker of Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim and Minister of Municipality H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah with Their Excellencies Ministers and other dignitaries during the inauguration, yesterday.  

Minister of Municipality H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah inaugurated the AgriteQ. The opening ceremony was attended by Speaker of Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment H E Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Republic of Somalia H E Mohamed Abdi Hayir and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Albania H E  Anila Denaj.

 Addressing the event, Minister of Municipality H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah said that the exhibition reflects Qatar’s commitment to promoting innovation and sustainable development in the agricultural sector as one of the main pillars for achieving comprehensive development in the country.

He said that AgriteQ is a strategic platform for showcasing the latest agricultural innovations and technologies, and provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and enhance cooperation between various stakeholders in the agriculture sector.

The Minister said that the exhibition provides a platform to discuss innovative solutions to global challenges related to food security and climate change, which are vital issues that require concerted international efforts. He noted that this year’s exhibition coincides with the launch of the National Food Security Strategy 2030, which represents an important roadmap for enhancing food security in the country and achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Minister highlighted Qatar’s commitment to developing an integrated agricultural system that ensures food security by increasing local production, supporting farmers, strengthening international partnerships, and implementing innovative solutions to improve productivity and reduce food waste.

He stressed that Qatar has achieved significant development in the field of agricultural production over the past five years, recording 50% increase in the production of fresh vegetables, achieving 97% self-sufficiency in dairy products, 98% in fresh poultry, and 33% in table eggs.

The Minister also highlighted the achievements made in the field of protected agriculture in the greenhouse and modern irrigation systems that have benefited most of the country’s productive farms.

He said that Qatar recently launched several pioneering projects in the agricultural sector, such as the agricultural services project based on production planning, the agricultural digitisation project in cooperation with Hassad Food Company, in addition to food waste reduction programmes in partnership with Qatar University. 

The Minister expressed his great welcome to the participation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the guest of honour in this event, stressing that this participation reflects the historical and strong ties between the two countries and brotherly peoples, and also contributes to enhancing joint cooperation in various fields, especially in the agricultural field.

UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment H E Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the guest of honour at the exhibition, stressed that the distinguished relations between the UAE and Qatar represent a pioneering model in promoting agricultural and environmental work, which contributes to enhancing food security at the regional and global levels.

She said that the UAE has achieved many accomplishments in the field of modern agriculture, noting that the UAE aims to be the best in the world in the food security index by 2051 through its national food security strategy.
