Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has appealed to the public to do their part to help fight COVID-19.

Ghadah Hudaib, an infection control specialist at HMC, said: “To protect yourself, your family and the community, we ask you to please play your part in the ongoing fight against COVID-19.”

Recent days have seen a significant increase in the number of new cases of COVID-19. The daily tally of new cases rose by 518 and reached 1,695 yesterday, according to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). Cases have been rising significantly since January 1.

Hudaib said: “One of the most important things you can do to protect yourself and others is to get vaccinated against COVID-19, including your booster dose when six months have passed after your second dose.

“Current vaccines are expected to protect against severe illness, hospitalisations, and deaths due to infection with Omicron variant.”

She said the Omicron variant was “much more contagious than other forms of the virus”.

“It is more important than ever for everyone to adhere to the precautionary measures including wearing of mask, social distancing, and regular hand washing,” she explained.

She also urged the public to support in following these actions at this critical time. “Prevention is our best option, stay safe,” Hudaib concluded.

Individuals eligible for booster dose can get the jab by appointment or walk-in at their registered health center. School staff and students can likewise avail it without prior appointment.

Older people registered under home care service of HMC can call on hotline 44390111 to take the booster shot at their home.
