Doha, Qatar: Expo 2023 Doha celebrated the 52nd Union Day of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of UAE H E Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi and a number of ministers, officials and heads of diplomatic missions.

Addressing the event, Al Kaabi expressed her pride and gratitude in celebrating more than half a century of unity, progress and innovation for the UAE at Expo 2023 Doha.

She congratulated Qatar for holding this global gathering and hosting this celebration which has been renewed since 1971.

The UAE Minister of State expressed her gratitude to the Organising Committee of Expo 2023 Doha and the partners from the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), and the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), for organising a successful horticultural exhibition that brings together great minds and ideas to secure a more sustainable future for all.

She said, “The UAE pavilion, which is held under the slogan ‘Legacy and Impact,’ highlights our country’s sustainable journey, its rich agricultural heritage, and our close relationship with our land and environment, which is not a new relationship, but rather authentic and well-established in the UAE society.”

Al Kaabi said, "This legacy, which was started by the founding father, the late H H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has turned into a vision and approach in the UAE formulated by our early dreamers who challenged the obstacles of nature and the scarcity of resources, and today’s dreamers of innovators and academics who are with us and who followed in the footsteps of our fathers to build a sustainable future for all.”

Al Kaabi stressed that her country’s commitment to sustainability is not just a vision, but rather a reality that unfolds every day and is evident in its efforts to create a greener environment for current and future generations.

She noted that in conjunction with Expo 2023 Doha, the UAE celebrates the Year of Sustainability, calling on the world to join it and address global challenges that require collective action.

The Minister of State said the UAE is also hosting the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), in which heads of state and supporters of climate action from all over the world and the public meet around a common goal of addressing climate challenges.

She added that since 1971, the UAE’s efforts to support global climate action have not stopped and it remains committed to its efforts to shape a sustainable future for coming generations, stressing the importance of unity, innovation and global cooperation in caring for the land that cares for us.

The officials toured the international exhibition, visited the Qatar and UAE pavilions and learned about the most prominent modern innovations in the field of agriculture in both countries. They also learned about sustainable development initiatives in Qatar and the UAE.

The UAE National Day is celebrated on December 2 each year, marking the unification of the seven emirates into a federation. The UAE consists of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah.
