Doha, Qatar: Qatar Airways’ Integrated Operations Center (IOC) is set to introduce forecasting and disruption management tools this year, which have been developed through their in-house data science initiatives. This move comes as part of the airline’s ongoing enhancement programme to ensure operational efficiency and schedule integrity.

According to the Qatar Airways Group’s annual report for the fiscal year 2022/2023, significant progress has been made in the previous year with the implementation of the latest standard flight planning software and the integration of new modules into their in-house developed Total Operations System (TOPS) operating system.

“Whilst 2022 saw the implementation of the latest standard flight planning software and the integration of new modules for its in house developed Total Operations System, TOPS operating system; 2023 continues this enhancement programme with the anticipated introduction of forecasting and disruption management tools borne from in-house data science initiatives.”

The IOC plays a crucial role in maintaining schedule integrity and ensuring the safe and secure operation of all Qatar Airways flights. With the introduction of forecasting and disruption management tools, the airline aims to enhance its ability to address potential disruptions and make proactive decisions.

Additionally, the report highlighted other operational improvements, such as the delivery of web-based real-time operational dashboards.

These dashboards offer comprehensive analysis and reporting capabilities, providing decision-makers across the Qatar Airways Group with valuable insights.

Customised reports containing key metrics and user-defined views are readily available to support both operational and strategic decision-making processes.

The year 2022/2023 saw a positive growth trajectory for Qatar Airways, as global travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic were gradually lifted, the report explained. Many countries returned to a pre-pandemic framework, enabling the airline to expand its operations. Qatar Airways has inaugurated three new destinations and successfully relaunched seven others, bringing its total network to over 160 destinations worldwide.

The IOC is committed to nurturing its intellectual capital by investing in its Flight Operations team, responsible for staff training and development.
