Doha, Qatar: Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by Mosques Department, inaugurated Sheikha Roda bint Jassim Al Thani Mosque in Umm Qarn. The mosque, which can accommodate 1,050 worshippers, is built on a vast plot of land measuring 7,174 square meters and includes an Eid prayer hall as well as houses for the Imam and the Muezzin.
The opening of this new mosque, donated by Sheikha Roza bint Jassim Al Thani, is part of the Ministry's plan to expand and develop mosques across the country in line with the national population growth and urban expansion, supporting Qatar's National Vision 2030.
The new mosque features a main prayer hall that can accommodate 950 male worshippers, alongside a women's prayer hall with space for 100 worshippers. The mosque also includes spacious ablution facilities and several parking spaces, some of which are designated for people with disabilities, alongside organized entrances and exits. The mosque is topped with a tall minaret.
An Eid prayer hall, covering 1,424 square meters and capable of hosting 1,835 worshippers, is attached to the mosque, along with dedicated houses for the Imam and Muezzin.
The Ministry's Engineering Affairs Department is responsible for meeting the mosque and prayer space needs of various regions in the country, including providing temporary mosques and overseeing their maintenance. The department also coordinates the annual mosque and Imam residence maintenance plan, supervises mosque construction and maintenance projects, and ensures adherence to design and engineering specifications. Furthermore, it maintains a database of mosques and prayer spaces and their staff.
