Brodie leads Flames over Blackhawks

CALGARY: T J Brodie and the Calgary Flames gave the Chicago Blackhawks yet another overtime loss. Brodie scored at 2:26 of the extra session last night to lead Flames to a 5-4 win over the slumping Blackhawks, whose overtime record fell to 0-6 this season.
Brodie picked up a rebound in front of Chicago goalie Corey Crawford before scoring a wraparound goal.
James van Riemsdyk scored with a little more than four minutes left in the game as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning.
With their first win in three games, the Maple Leafs (28-21-6) snapped a three-game winning streak by the Lightning (31-17-5).
The Boston Bruins spoiled Tim Thomas’s homecoming as they peppered their former goaltender in a victory over Florida.
Jaroslav Halak recorded his fourth shutout of the season and the St Louis Blues got goals from left wings Alexander Steen and Brenden Morrow in a victory over the New Jersey Devils.
Halak stopped 23 shots in extending his franchise record with his 20th shutout as a member of the Blues and the 29th of his NHL career. Scott Hartnell scored two goals, goaltender Steve Mason stopped 33 shots and the Philadelphia Flyers snapped a four-game winless streak by defeating the Detroit Red Wings.
The undermanned Red Wings (23-19-11) played without three of their top five scorers: centers Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, and right winger Johan Franzen. Alex Ovechkin tallied two goals and two assists, setting up defenseman Mike Green with a perfect feed on the game-winner, to lead Washington past Buffalo.
Ovechkin passed Mike Gartner for second place on the Capitals’ franchise points list with 790 career points, and now has a league-leading 38 goals.
Washington improved to 24-21-8. Cody Hodgson had two goals for the Sabres (14-30-8).
Stephane Da Costa scored his first two goals of the season, and had the first two-goal game of his career, leading the Ottawa Senators to a win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Zach Parise scored a goal and added two assists, center Mikael Granlund had a goal and an assist and goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 31 saves as the Minnesota Wild defeated the Anaheim Ducks.
The Wild (29-20-6) extended their record in January to 9-3-1 with the victory and jumped ahead of the Vancouver Canucks into the top wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
Phoenix defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson had the third two-goal game of his career and center Antoine Vermette scored his seventh goal in his last seven games to lead the Coyotes to victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
