Doha: AFG College with the University of Aberdeen recently held their inaugural ‘For Women, by Women’ event at their Doha campus.

The event entitled ‘How to navigate your future career for success: Developing and empowering yourself’ attracted over 40 senior leaders from a wide-ranging mix of organisations.

The interactive sessions which were led by female facilitators from AFG College exploring issues and building on skills like self-advocacy, the imposter phenomenon, assertiveness and allyship. The programme enabled women from various sectors to come together, network and reflect on their achievements, as well creating platforms to launch their future career goals.

At the conclusion of the two-day event, participants were presented with a certificate reflecting their participation and contribution.  Dr Fiona Robson, Head of Discipline for Business and Management commented: “This fantastic event surpassed our expectations and it was an honour to be able to work with the women to discuss and explore key leadership and career issues in such a supportive way. Myself and my colleagues who contributed in running the sessions, Dr Nadia DeGama and Dawn McCartie were delighted with the attendance and contributions of those who attended. We hope that this will be the first of many events in our ‘For Women, by Women series’.

One of the attendees, Alia Jumean, an Associate from Al Tamima & Company said:  “I am not exaggerating when I say I don’t think I have ever left an event feeling so powerful and brave. I just wanted to thank everyone so much for the truly phenomenal work that was put into the sessions. I am grateful to have been a participant and I am looking forward to future events.”

AFG College will be delivering the course again in the new academic year to allow more Qatar-based women to benefit from this powerful development and networking opportunity.
