Experts discussing the significance of collaboration to boost the marine industry.
Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s top industry leaders took the stage to elucidate the vitality of collaborations between key players in startups and technological providers in driving innovation and growth in the marine sector. The panelists at the Web Summit Qatar 2024, included Jassim AlMajid, Vice President, of IT at Milaha, Mohamed Amer Majzoub, Finance Manager, Hamad Port, Q-Terminals, Rami Bakeir, Vice President of Asset Planning and Economics at Milaha and Tim Wagner, CEO and Founder of Vendia.
The panel entitled ‘Collaborations to boost marine innovation’ discussed on the role of Digital Foundation technologies in creating intelligent ports and connected vessels to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of maritime operations.
AlMajid stressed that operations in the tech sector are very significant as it helps in the innovation and development process.
Highlighting one of the biggest challenges faced by the industry, he noted that in every aspect, the development of technology is slow.
“You will see industries like the aerospace and automotive that are faster growing towards technology, while in the marine industry, we are just getting there. So what we need to do is to cooperate with other industries such as automotive, aerospace to get the knowledge that we have to also work with other across industries,” he said adding that it will help the industry in terms of efficiency and savings.
AlMajid also mentioned that cooperating and collaborating with other industries will enable the marine sector to foster and grow in the region.
Majzoub said “When we come to the finance, it’s very important for us to have this streamline efficient operation and collaboration between all parties to increase and to speed up the production process in order to reduce the billing process. He also stated that the systems are integrated together with customs, port facilities, and the shipping line, which aims to lower the costs.
Bakeir emphasised the collaboration process as the key pillar to enhancing and implementing projects. He remarked that partnering with other industries plays a fundamental role in delivering projects with high-standard products. He further added: “The standards with governments, marine sector, maritime laws, and oil and gas operates as a driving force in partnerships to come closer between the parties delivering a certain product or project.”
