New York: The State of Qatar welcomed the positive steps taken by the new administration in the Syrian Arab Republic, particularly those aimed at ensuring the safety of civilians, maintaining the stability of state institutions, guaranteeing the continuity of public services, and securing the basic needs of the Syrian people.
The State of Qatar also commended the measures undertaken by the new Syrian administration to restructure the Syrian state and promote unity and consensus among all Syrian parties, paving the way for strengthened civil peace, security, stability, and the establishment of the rule of law, institutions, and development.
This came in a statement delivered by Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani during the Security Council Briefing on the situation in the Middle East (Syria) at the UN headquarters in New York.
Her Excellency noted that the State of Qatar takes pride in its steadfast position over the past 13 years in standing by the Syrian people and supporting their legitimate demands for dignity, freedom, and social justice.
Her Excellency added that the State of Qatars consistent stance was reflected in the restoration of fraternal relations with Syria, exemplified by the official visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the Syrian capital on January 30, the first head of state to visit following this historic transformation, highlighting that during the visit, HH the Amir congratulated Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa on the victory of the Syrian revolution and his selection as president for the transitional phase, reaffirming Qatars unwavering support for Syrias unity, sovereignty, and independence.
Her Excellency emphasized that these steps mark the beginning of a new phase, allowing the Syrian people to achieve their legitimate aspirations for freedom, justice, and peace, underlining that the current stage necessitates the states exclusive control over arms within a unified national army that represents all components of Syrian society without exclusion, ensuring the countrys sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
Highlighting the State of Qatars humanitarian commitment to improving living conditions for the Syrian people, and Qatar's moral responsibility toward the Syrian brothers and sisters, the State of Qatar, Her Excellency stated, has established an air bridge to deliver humanitarian aid.
To date, 13 military aircraft carrying a total of 378 tons of aid have been dispatched, she added, while confirming that the State of Qatar recently inaugurated "Al Amal City" in northern Syria, a residential project for displaced persons, sponsored jointly by Qatar and Turkiye, and equipped with essential service facilities.
Her Excellency further underscored that the current humanitarian situation calls for enhanced international efforts to increase aid and ensure its unhindered delivery to all affected areas. Therefore, the State of Qatar, Her Excellency added, calls for the lifting of sanctions, given their adverse impact on the Syrian people and considering that the reasons for their imposition no longer apply.
In conclusion, Her Excellency reiterated the State of Qatar's condemnation of the Israeli occupations seizure of the buffer zone with Syria and adjacent sites, affirming that the State of Qatar views this as a dangerous escalation, a blatant assault on Syrias sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a flagrant violation of international law, warning against Israels policy of imposing a fait accompli, which threatens to drive the region toward further violence and tension.
Her Excellency also underscored the State of Qatars firm stance that the international community must fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling the occupation to comply with international legitimacy and relevant Security Council resolutions.
