Moscow: A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck the Altai Republic in southern Siberia early Saturday.
According to the Russian news agency Interfax, citing the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the earthquake occurred in the early hours, and residents in neighboring areas felt the tremors.
Regional head Andrei Turchak stated on Telegram that there were no casualties, but a high-alert regime was imposed, public events were canceled, and preparations were made for potential water supply issues in areas close to the earthquake's epicenter.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers.
