Doha, Qatar: The Japanese Embassy in Qatar announced that the application for the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship 2024 has opened and the deadline is on June 8.
This is for Qatari students who wish to study in higher education institutions. MEXT (The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan) offers two types of scholarships: Undergraduate and Graduate studies.
Qualifications for Graduate Studies students are: must be Qatari national, applicant must have been born after April 2, 1989, must have completed a programme with the standard study period of three years or more at universities or equivalent educational institutions in countries other than Japan and obtained a degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree; must be willing to study Japanese, and must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant’s study in Japan.
The scholarship covers the full tuition fee: entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities.
There is a monthly allowance of JPY143,000 for non-regular Master, JPY144,000 for regular master, and JPY145,000 for doctor. If the recipient conducts research in a designated region, JPY2,000 or JPY3,000 will be added.
The monetary amount each year may be subject to change due to budgetary reasons. Also, the scholarship covers one round-trip flight ticket between Japan and Qatar.
Duration for the study for non-regular students is from April 2024 to March 2026 or for October period, from September or October 2024 to March 2026. The first six-month period of scholarship will be a term of preparatory education of Japanese language for those who require such education.
Meanwhile, qualifications for Undergraduate students are: applicants must be Qatari nationals, must have been born after April 2, 1999, applicants who have completed 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan, applicants who meet the said requirements by March 2024 are eligible. However, applicants who wish to enroll from the fall semester through direct placement are expected to complete 12 years of schooling by August 2024; and must be willing to study Japanese. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to conduct their academic studies in Japan in Japanese.
The scholarship covers full tuition including entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities; monthly allowance of JPY117,000 and in case that the recipient research in a designated region, JPY2,000 or 3,000 will be added and the monetary amount each year may be subject to change due to budgetary reasons; and one round-trip airplane ticket between Japan and Qatar.
On the departure date, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between April 1, 2024, and April 7, 2024. Departure from the home residence should be on or after April 1, 2024.
If an applicant is to enroll in his university from the fall semester through direct placement, he must be able to arrive in Japan during the period specified by the accepting university within two weeks before and after the starting date of the university’s relevant academic term for that year.
