The General Authority of Customs (GAC) released 278,252 customs declarations in November, the Authority disclosed in its monthly statistics newsletter.

The declaration sees a drop from October, which totalled 315,463 declarations. However, August and September’s figures were 261,811 and 253,692, respectively.

The Air Cargo Department reached 251,199 declarations, while the Maritime Customs recorded 23,336 statements in November. The Authority also released 97 percent of its declarations within one hour, maintaining its efficiency and operation speed. The GAC also transferred 25,839 declarations to other government agencies for processing.

India and China remained the top exporting and importing countries in Qatar. The Ministry of Municipality’s Natural Reserves and Wildlife Department knocked off the Department of Fisheries to regain Best Government Agency in time of release title, with an average time of two hours.

The Authority also recorded 325 seizure reports, of which its largest single catch was 20,667 pieces of Captagon.

Meanwhile, Khalid Hamad Al Kaabi, Head of Internal Audit Department of the GAC, stated that the Department’s tasks streamline the operations of the Authority.

The Department sets up the annual audit plan on the administrative units of the Authority and submits it to the GAC Chairman for approval. It also prepares reports on audit results with recommendations and implements them.

Al Kaabi also noted that the Department collaborates with other sections of the GAC like the anti- Smuggling and Customs Security Department, the Department of Legal Affairs, the Department of Customs Affairs, and others to ensure good workflow.

He also called on officials to adhere to the laws and legislations related to the Authority’s work and the ministerial decisions issued in this regard and to exert more effort to raise the work standards and performance within the GAC.
