Doha, Qatar: The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has launched a campaign to assist the poor and needy families in Qatar by dedicating a link and hotline for receiving requests.

The drive ‘Dulluna Ala Al Mutaffi’ (guide us to a poor) aims to involve zakat payers and members of society in guiding families in need of assistance within Qatar. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Ministry on Thursday.

Addressing the press conference, Malallah Abdul Rahman Al Jaber, Director of Zakat Affairs Department said the campaign relies on the community’s cooperation in reaching poor families who do not disclose their needs, by guiding them through the link: https://help.islam.gov.qa/mutafif/ or through the hotline (55188886), to verify their eligibility for assistance according to the approved Sharia and social standards.

He said that the campaign comes within the framework of the Department’s efforts to reach all those eligible to receive zakat within the country.

“The Zakat Affairs Department spares no effort in collecting zakat funds from those who pay zakat and distributing them in full to those entitled to it at a rate of 100% without any deductions,” said Al Jaber.

He said the Department has a large database of those eligible for assistance within Qatar, recording 30,000 beneficiaries.

“The Zakat Affairs Department provided over QR212m to thousands of eligible people in the country in 2024,” said Al Jaber. He said that these efforts come based on the approved regulations, laws, and mechanisms to distribute zakat funds to eligible people according to the holy Quran.

The Head of the Zakat Funds Section Mohammed Hassan Al Tamimi reviewed the electronic mechanism for receiving and studying assistance requests.

“The Zakat Funds Section investigates the eligibility of those who apply for assistance by verifying the accuracy of the data and documents submitted, conducting desk and field research, and ensuring that they are eligible for assistance; to ensure that zakat funds are delivered to those who deserve them, through several stages,” said Al Tamimi.

He said that these stages include electronic submission via the Department’s website or application, data and documents entry by reception staff, reviewing applications to verify the completeness of documents and social study of the case by specialized researchers.

“Other stages are referring the file to the Aid Committee to make the appropriate decision, legal review of the file to ensure its compliance with the legitimate zakat expenditures and the final approval for the disbursement of assistance electronically by depositing the assistance amount in the beneficiary’s bank account,” said Al Tamimi.

Head of Zakat Services Department Yousef Hassan Al Hammadi stressed the importance of legal verification of cases and their eligibility for Zakat funds.

He said that the recipients of Zakat are legally defined in the holy Quran which includes the poor, the needy, the debtors, and other eligible people as stated in the verse.
