Doha: In the spirit of Ramadan, University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), in collaboration with its Qatari Student Association and Qatar Charity, has once again undertaken a meaningful initiative to distribute Iftar meals to workers on campus.

This year, the university provided 500 meals to individuals across various divisions, including safety and security, housekeeping, maintenance, and others, as a gesture of gratitude for their dedication and hard work.

Students played a vital role in the initiative, organising and distributing meals within the university cafeterias. The event not only promoted a sense of community but also reinforced the core values of Ramadan which include kindness, generosity, and giving back.

Dr. Salem Al Naemi, President of the UDST, emphasised the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Education extends beyond the classroom; we aim to instill in our students a strong sense of social responsibility and empathy.

“Ramadan is a time of reflection and unity, and we encourage our students to actively participate in community initiatives that create a lasting impact. We extend our sincere appreciation to Qatar Charity and our student volunteers for their commitment to making this annual event a success.”

For many shift workers, Iftar can be a challenging time as they are unable to break their fast with their families. Through this initiative, UDST reaffirms its appreciation for the workers who contribute to campus life and ensure they feel valued as part of the university community.

Faisal Rashid AlFehaida, Chief Local Programmes Officer, at Qatar Charity, expressed his support for the collaboration, saying, “Iftar represents a time of unity and compassion, and we are pleased to partner once again with the UDST in this initiative.

"The university’s commitment to social responsibility and volunteerism continues to inspire its students and the wider community.”

AlFehaida encouraged other institutions and companies to embrace similar charitable initiatives, emphasising the importance of ensuring that support reaches as many workers and low-income individuals as possible within the country.

As Ramadan continues to unite people, the UDST remains dedicated to promoting a culture of service, empathy, and gratitude, encouraging students, faculty, and staff to contribute positively to society.
