As Qatar continues to implement policies to ensure adequate provision for its workforce as they transition into retirement, the Director of the Retirement Department of the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (GRSIA), Khalifa Issa Al Khulaifi, has revealed that Qatari employees would are entitled to more rewards for every year after completing 30 years of service.
Speaking to Qatar TV yesterday, Al Khulaifi explained that, “Apart from the end-of-service paid by the employer, the employee concerned having spent over 30 years will receive the end-of-service, and a reward from the Retirement Authority.”
The law takes effect after 6 months and applies to new retirees, he affirmed during the interview.
For her part, Moza Muhammad Al-Sulaiti, Director of Planning and Quality Department at The General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority, said that the most important risks covered by the new law are death, disability and employees who are 60 years old and above.
“With regard to death and disability, regardless of the length of service or age, even if he worked for one month, and if the cause of death was due to work, then the pension service is settled as if he had served 30 years,” she said.
Replying another question, Al Sulaiti said that, “The retiree who receives a pension below QR100,000 is entitled to a housing allowance premium, and those above it are not entitled to a housing allowance.”
The Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued recently Law No. 1 of 2022 issuing the Social Insurance Law, and Law No. 2 of 2022 on military retirement. These laws meet the aspirations of retirees and ensure a decent life for them and their families.The minimum pension shall be no less than QR 15,000, and a housing allowance of no more than QR6,000 shall be added to the pension.
