The Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition's (DJWE) 18th edition is making a huge comeback after a one-year hiatus introducing new initiatives including the first DJWE lounge featuring famous jewellery-themed movies; a collection that shed light on Down Syndrome; FIFA World Cup 2022 jewellery and accessories; showcase of Qatari designers; and workshops from international experts.
Speaking at a Media Roundtable held yesterday, Qatar Tourism (QT) Head of Marketing and Planning Department, Hessa Al Thani said that DJWE is a special exhibition as it offers premium quality.
“We’re excited to bring DJWE back and showcase the latest in luxury design by both international and local brands. DJWE has had a long and successful history in Qatar, and is the only exhibition of its kind in the region. In addition to the multitude of exhibitors present, visitors will see a number of workshops taking place by famed designers, which is a new offering in this year’s edition,” she explained.
QT Acting Head of Events and Festivals Technical Support Section, Hamad Al Khaja said: “DJWE is one of Qatar Tourism’s most anticipated events, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to welcome visitors from Qatar and across the region. This exhibition highlights Qatar’s offering as a premium destination for business events, where designers and jewellery aficionados can explore and nurture their creativity under one roof.” There is so much in store for the return of the first of its kind exhibit in the region.
Ali Bin Ali is introducing two new brands from Switzerland and USA. Al Majed Jewellery as the official licensed luxury jewellery and accessories for the FIFA World Cup 2022; Letrange, a brand of Printemps will showcase a unique piece of Crocodile leather bag with handles made of white gold and decorated with diamonds of approximately 200 carats; and Louis Vuitton will present for the first time the “Saturne necklace,” a creation of over 141 multi-coloured sapphires.
Also a first at the exhibit is a dedicated space for workshops and talks by jewellery experts from all around the world. The exhibit also spotlights Qatari talents where one of the graduates under Young Qatari Designer programme, Nada Al Sulaiti, founder of Hairaat Jewellery will have her standalone booth.
“My jewellery is primarily inspired by Qatar, what we do in Hairaat is we take the architectural language and hidden beauty that we find in Qatar whether it is in sea, desert or ornaments from the heritage and transform it into modern jewellery that suits international ladies and that what distinguished us. Each and every piece holds a story, all of our pieces has a story,” she explained.
Asked on the future of the Qatar jewellery industry, Hessa Al Thani anticipated saying she sees it going “bigger and bigger.” “Something that Qataris always love is their jewellery, not only the local community, but I think it’s something that everybody can relate to.”
Al Thani also said that among the key markets are India and China countries, they are also expecting Saudi tourists and other neighbouring GCC countries to be visiting the five-day expo.
DJWE set on May 9 to 13 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in West Bay will feature over 500 brands from more than ten countries as it brings together local, international, and regional brands making it a networking platform for companies and visitors in Qatar and other countries. Indian and Turkish pavilions are back once again with 18 and five exhibitors respectively.
