Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) yesterday organised a press conference to announce the ‘Environmental Sustainability Conference’ for companies in Qatar and the launch of a book titled “Corporate Environmental Sustainability - Reports and Achievements”, to be held on September 12.

The book, the first of its kind to highlight the efforts of Qatari companies and their achievements in environmental sustainability, sheds light on the Qatari government’s efforts in the field and the achievements of Qatari companies, along with their perceptions of sustainability.

The project is sponsored by Hassad Foods, Abdullah Abdulghani & Brothers, Mwani Qatar, Msheireb Properties, and Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC)— the main sponsors — while Ashghal, Baladna, Environmental Services, and Green Energy Company are the gold sponsors.

In attendance at the event were the Environmental Expert and Engineering Adviser at MoECC Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari, CEO of QPMC Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al Tamimi, Ashghal’s Director of Safety & Quality Dr. Ali Muhammad Al Marri, CEO of Green Energy Amar Hamid, Dr. Eiman Al Ansari, Abdullah Abdulghani and Brothers (AAB) Government Relations & Public Affairs Director; and other dignitaries.

In his speech, Dr. Al Kuwari noted that the publication of the book is one of the great efforts at documenting the achievements of private companies and their efforts in environmental sustainability. He added that the conference will have the participation of a number of scientists and researchers in the environmental field.

“The conference will be an opportunity to exchange experiences, information, and data in the field and to come up with applicable scientific and practical recommendations,” he said.

Al-Kuwari said that MoECC keep abreast of global transformations and developments in this field, without prejudice to the needs of future generations of natural resources. This is to achieve the highest levels of prosperity, well-being, and quality of life for everyone in Qatar, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.

On his part, Dr. Al Marri said that Ashghal has continued to make great efforts aimed at integrating and applying the principles of sustainability within its strategic plan.

He noted that many initiatives have been implemented at project work sites with the aim of ensuring the application of the concepts of sustainability and environmental protection within the framework of the authority’s commitment to providing the pivotal role that contributes to achieving the strategic objectives of the State of Qatar, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
