Doha, Qatar: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara crowned the winners of the first-ever Bilmesan Championship which is part of the Senyar Festival.
Katara General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti crowned the winning teams, along with other officials. The coronation ceremony took place during the “Al Qaffal” celebration, which was held on Katara Beach yesterday, in the presence of a large crowd of people, and in a distinctive heritage atmosphere filled with authenticity and ancient maritime heritage.
The Al Zubarah team took first place in the 450kg Bilmesan Championship, and its captain, Nasser Khalifa Al Melhem, received a prize worth QR300,000. The Umm Al Houl team won second place, and its captain, Khaled Hamad Al Mannai, received a prize worth QR200,000; meanwhile, the Serdal team came in third place, and its captain, Ahmed Abdullah Al Mohammed received an amount of QR100,000.
The Umm Al Houl team also received the award for the largest fish weighing 21kg, which is of the type of sakan, and its owner, Khaled Hamad Al Mannai, received a prize worth QR50,000.
