Doha: Minister of State for Energy Affairs H E Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said the National Day is an occasion to inspire more sincere work and boost the spirit of belonging to the homeland.
In a statement to QNA, the Minister stressed that what has been achieved and being accomplished in the energy sector still takes inspiration from the spirit of sincere work and national affiliation and from the fragrant history that was written by the founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani. It is what enhances the spirit of loyalty and unity among the various components of our one society, he added.
He said that the most important characteristic of this year’s celebrations of the National Day is that the world’s attention is directed at our beloved country as it is hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which its finals will be held on this glorious day. His Excellency said that the energy sector has played a role in supporting this historic tournament when QatarEnergy joined as an official partner in sponsoring the tournament, an embodiment of its continuous support for sports, particularly football since it is the most popular game in the world of sports.
The Minister of State for Energy Affairs deemed the celebration of the National Day as an opportunity to highlight the great development in the energy sector, the effects of which were manifested in the development of the various components of the sector and the expansion of QatarEnergy’s presence around the world in the fields of exploration and the LNG industry as well as access to different regions of the continents of Europe, Africa and Latin America.
The Minister of State for Energy Affairs stated that projects to develop the LNG industry were what distinguished the achievements of this year, as QatarEnergy awarded contracts worth tens of billions of dollars to implement two projects to expand the North Field East and the North Field South, which will raise Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 million tons per year to 126 million tons per year. In addition to local projects to increase global LNG supplies, relentless work continues to supply global markets with 18 million tons per year of liquefied natural gas with the start of production from the Golden Pass project in the US state of Texas before the end of 2024, he said.
