Doha: The State of Qatar and the Federative Republic of Brazil affirmed their keenness to strengthen and develop bilateral relations in various fields and work to develop the economic partnership to raise it to a level worthy of prosperity for the two countries' economies.
This came in the joint statement of the State of Qatar and the Federative Republic of Brazil, which was issued within the framework of the official visit of HE President Federative Republic of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro to the State of Qatar at the kind invitation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
HH the Amir held an official session of talks at the Amiri Diwan with HE the Brazilian President that focused on discussing ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all fields. Views regarding issues of common interest between the two countries were exchanged. The talks reflected the good bilateral relations and similar views held between the two countries.
The statement indicated that HH the Amir and HE the Brazilian President stressed the importance of bilateral political dialogue and agreed to continue strengthening relations through high-level visits and diplomatic dialogue mechanisms. HE President Bolsonaro extended an invitation to HH the Amir to visit Brazil at a date to be determined through diplomatic channels.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest, including the political and economic situation in Latin America and the Middle East.
Realizing the possibilities that the Brazilian economy has and the level of economic development that the State of Qatar has reached, both parties agreed to study ways to raise the economic partnership to a level worthy of the prosperity of the two countries' economies.
HE President of the Federative Republic of Brazil indicated that his current visit coincided with the 50th anniversary of the State of Qatar's independence, adding that this important date represents the emergence of the modern State of Qatar in the international community, as well as its accession to the United Nations and the League of Arab States, in addition to other important international organizations. He congratulated both the government and the people of the State of Qatar on this occasion.
The statement added that HE the Brazilian President praised the remarkable development achieved by the State of Qatar in the past five decades. HH the Amir also congratulated the HE the President, government, and people of the Federative Republic of Brazil on the 200th anniversary of its independence, which will be celebrated in 2022.
Recognizing the importance of the transport and supply sector to the global supply chains and the economic development of both countries, they also agreed to study the possibilities of bilateral cooperation in this field, including negotiations on concluding a maritime transport agreement.
They reiterated, according to the statement, the importance of the defense field for bilateral relations, and announced their desire to consider joint initiatives in this field based on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the defense ministries of the two countries in Oct. 2019.
They affirmed their intention to build a partnership in the field of defense products that includes various aspects, research and development, provided that the MoU regarding the strategic partnership related to the development, production, and marketing of defense products, confirmed in Doha on this occasion, will form the basis of this cooperation.
They noted the important role of the science, technology, and innovation sector in increasing the competitiveness of their national economies, and expressed their determination to explore complementarities between the two countries in the above-mentioned sector, and agreed to start negotiations to reach a cooperation agreement in the field.
The statement added that Brazil congratulated the State of Qatar on its preparations to host the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup at the end of Nov., and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and offered to share the accumulated Brazilian experience in the field of organizing major sporting events in previous years.
The two sides stressed that mutual understanding and links between societies provide a better basis for strong and resilient bilateral relations, and agreed to encourage cooperation initiatives in the fields of culture, education, tourism, and sports.
