ANKARA: Former deputy prime minister Ali Babacan will stand as a candidate for the ruling AK Party in Turkey's Nov. 1 election, a senior party official said on Friday, marking the return of one of the AKP's biggest names in the snap vote.
Babacan, a U.S.-educated former management consultant long seen as an anchor of foreign investor confidence in Turkey, will stand as a candidate, senior AKP official Bekir Bozdag said in a live television interview.
