Doha: The Public Prosecution has issued a statement indicating that the investigation on the collapsed building at Bin Durham area in central Doha, has been completed.
A statement issued by the office of the Attorney General explained that the outcomes of the investigations carried out by the Public Prosecution and the technical report of the committee formed by a decision of the Prosecution indicated the following:
1. The execution of the construction of the building was different from the design drawings as some the width of some sectors was changed to be 20 cm instead of 25 cm and 30 cm. Besides, the fortification iron bars diameter was changed from 25mm to 18mm.
2. The reduction of width of the columns and iron bars diameter throughout the construction and building phase resulted in reducing and abolishing the safety margins often followed in the design of buildings.
3. The company which carried out the maintenance work did not obtain the necessary permit and license.
4. The residents were not evacuated to carry out the main maintenance work for the building's columns.
5. Safety procedures were not taken into account in the maintenance work, as there were no supports capable of carrying big loads.
6. The company that carried out the maintenance work for the building is not qualified to carry out the required maintenance work.
The statement further added that the investigations concluded that those held responsible, include the following: the main contractor, the project consultant, the building owner, and the company which carried out the maintenance work.
Therefore, the Attorney General has issued a decision to refer the accused to the Criminal Court.
