Katara art exhibitions explore meanings of Quranic verses, Ramadan values

Doha, Qatar: As part of the activities of the holy month of Ramadan, the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara opened on Thursday three diverse art exhibitions that combine various creative experiences, enrich the artistic and cultural scene, and also allow the public to explore the meanings of the holy verses and the true values of the holy month of Ramadan.

The opening was attended by Saif Saad Al Dosari, Deputy Director General of Katara and Director of the Human Resources Department at Katara, and H E Dr. Mustafa Göksu, Ambassador of Turkiye to Qatar, along with a group of artists and arts and culture enthusiasts.

The first exhibition is being held in Building 18, Hall 2, under the title “The Spirit of the Arabic Letter” by Iraqi artist Bashar Ali. It celebrates calligraphy and embodies the fruits and plants mentioned in the verses of the Holy Qur’an in a creative way, by forming the Arabic letter in which the Holy Qur’an was written, through paintings that were used in it. Ali said the exhibition stems from the idea of employing the Arabic letter in Qur’anic verses, whether by embodying the aforementioned fruits mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, or choosing the type of Arabic calligraphy, and the colours that are consistent with the meanings and formations, in addition to integrating the aesthetics of the Arabic letter with art. He expressed his happiness at the exhibition, which includes 27 paintings, as part of Katara’s activities during the holy month, so that visitors can enjoy an experience inspired by the atmosphere of the holy month.

Building 18 in Katara also witnessed the inauguration of the “Mentioned in the Qur’an” exhibition, which is held in cooperation between Katara and the Qatar Photography Center, with the participation of an elite group of photographers.

The exhibition includes a variety of photographs that represent multiple topics mentioned in the Holy Qur’an. It also includes Qur’anic texts to consolidate the religious link between the Qur’anic verse and the photograph.

Meanwhile, Building 22 in Katara witnessed the opening of the “Mosques of the World in Postcards” exhibition, where the exhibition includes a selection and variety of distinctive cards and commemorative stamps for the most famous mosques in Qatar including the Sheikh Mosque, Al Qubaib Mosque, the Omar bin Al Khattab and Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Mosque, Education City Mosque and Katara Mosque, in addition to famous mosques in the Arab Gulf states and Arab countries, such as the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, commemorative stamps from the Hajj seasons, Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock in Al Quds Al Sharif, the Great Mosque of Bani Umayyad in Damascus, and Al Azhar Mosque in Cairo.

The exhibition also included postcards of the minarets of mosques in Libya, the official opening of the Ahmed Al Fateh Center and the House of the Qur’an in Bahrain, along with many famous mosques and religious institutions in Asian, European and African countries, such as Turkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mali, Cyprus and Bosnia.

The Katara Ramadan Chess Championship competitions also began, which will continue until March 23 between 9pm and 2:30am.

The tournament included 88 players, both male and female, representing 14 countries. The first day of the tournament witnessed the first round competitions in the classic chess style of nine rounds according to the Swiss system.
