The second edition of “Hanguk from My Perspective” contest took place on Saturday, captivating participants and spectators alike with its mission to foster a deeper comprehension of Korea in Qatar through the exchange of diverse viewpoints on the nation.

The event served as a platform for individuals to share their unique perspectives, shedding light on various aspects of Korean culture and enhancing cultural understanding between the Qatar and the East Asian nation. “Hanguk” is referred to as “Korea” in English.

Expressing his appreciation, H E Lee Joon-ho, the Korean Ambassador to Qatar, conveyed his gratitude to all participants for their remarkable enthusiasm and keen interest in Korea. “This is my great pleasure to have a chance to hear a wide variety of opinions about Korea from your own perspective,” he said in a speech.

The ambassador also praised the participants for their impressive familiarity with Korea, expressing admiration for the depth of their knowledge about the East Asian country. “I am deeply impressed at how well and widely you know about Korea, not only K-pop, K-drama but also Korean tradition, education, and technology. It was very meaningful time for all of us to learn about Korea from different points of view.”

Furthermore, he stated that his goal as an ambassador is to strengthen Qatar-Korea relations.

“And I think knowing better about each other is the very first step to strengthening bilateral ties. I believe your valued inputs today will promote better understanding about Korea in Qatar, and it will eventually contribute to further tightening Korea-Qatar relations. In this sense every one of you here today is a Korean ambassador, and I am very proud of you all,” he said.

The event was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Qatar, Qatar University South Korean Club, and the Korea-Arab Society. It  aimed to foster a deeper comprehension of Korea in Qatar by facilitating the exchange of diverse viewpoints.

Participants eagerly shared their knowledge and passions on a wide range of topics, from Korean art, movies, dramas, travel destinations, embroidery, and heritage to Korean education, technology, and volunteering experiences during the 2022 World Cup.
